Moved to Tribal Center: Pizza On The Farm

Due to the forecasted weather conditions the Pizza on the Farm event has been moved to the Tribal Center Gym.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

  • 5 pm – Pizza is served! (Homemade pizza crust, farm fresh toppings from Red Earth Gardens)
  • 6 pm – Community Meeting, hear results from the recent Community Financial Literacy Survey and discuss next steps
  • 7 pm – Film Screening, “Gi-ti-gay-wi-nini-wug: The planters and keepers of the Creators garden”

MFSI staff give presentation at Iowa Farm to School Conference

On June 29th, MFSI Outreach & Education staff attended the Iowa Farm to School Conference in Ankeny, Iowa, where they had the opportunity to present on MFSI’s youth garden programs with the Meskwaki Settlement School and Meskwaki Youth Program.

Fall Harvest Celebration and SeedKeeper Training Update

 

**Meskwaki Food Sovereignty Initiative planned activities for this Friday and Saturday will proceed as scheduled**

Please join us tomorrow (Friday) for a Field Day exploring the Red Earth Gardens farm, building an outdoor oven out of all natural materials, and participating in seed saving activities. There will be a meal served at 5pm, followed by a presentation on indigenous seed saving from invited guest Rowen White. Come for all or part of the day. Per Executive Director, a maximum of two hours of administrative leave may be allowed, if approved by Directors, to allow staff to attend this event. Office must have coverage, however, and services to Tribal members must not be interrupted.

 

On Saturday we are offering a full-day “Honoring Seeds” Indigenous SeedKeeper Training with invited guests Rowen White and Zach Paige, agenda attached below. Please join us for all or part of the day – don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn from some of the leading experts in indigenous seed saving! Lunch and dinner meals provided free to participants.
