Dear Meskwaki Community,

I am so pleased and proud to announce that the Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa has been awarded a Humanities Iowa grant in the sum of $9180.00 for our project, “Meskwaki Art/Culture Symposium – 2017”.

The event is in the planning phase and we still have a lot of work to do.  We have set the date for this event as Monday, October 9, 2017.  We will have day-long activities focusing on the arts and culture of the Meskwaki Nation, within the comfort and space of the Meskwaki Veterans Convention Center.  Some of the features for this day will be a gallery area to display a variety of Meskwaki made artworks, past and present, cattail mat making demonstrations by our Kickapoo relatives and tables set up specifically for our local artists.

It is our hope to recognize and lift up our artistic community as well as celebrate the natural evolution of all art forms that are practiced by our people.  Whether you are an active artist, or someone who appreciates the work of others, I hope you will consider making time to attend our “Meskwaki Art/Culture Symposium”.

Sincerely,

Mary Young Bear – Registrar/Community Outreach
