Meskwaki Nation once again celebrated the Proclamation of 1857 with a full day of festivities on the Settlement on Friday, July 13, 2018.
The day began with a fun run that looped the pow wow grounds. The Robert Morgan Post 701 veterans presented the colors and the Flag Song and Victory Song were sung in the morning before the rest of the events took place. Historical Preservation Director Johnathon Buffalo spoke about some of the Tribe’s history leading up to and after 1857. After lunch the group took part in a bags tournament and eventually moved everything to the Tribal Center once rain began move in. In the evening a pow wow was put on in the Tribal Center gym with some great dances including the Pipe Dance, Buffalo Head Dance, and Swan Dance. Thanks to all of the volunteers and workers who made this year’s Meskwaki Nation Day a success.
